Depending upon snow conditions, there are a variety of steep chutes along the cirque between Alta Proper and Winter Alta in Sequoia National Park. From the Pear Lake Ski Hut, head east and around the Matterhorn until you have gained the ridge below the upper Skier’s Alta Bowl (Peak 11,328). Then head southwest above the cliffs that sit at the south end of Pear Lake. Traverse this bowl until you are just below the summit of Alta Peak. There you will find an obvious and skinable west-facing obvious ramp which leads to the ridgeline between Alta Peak and Skiers Alta. From there, you can ski a number of excellent chutes back down towards Pear Lake.
